Too Old for Fairytales

Why is it that stories told in books and movies just set us up for disappointment?
Like, you watch movies/read about the perfect friendships, first loves that last forever, families that coexist with only minor flaws, heros who do extraordinary things, surpassing what anyone ever dreamed possible.

Then you look at your life and think,
"okay, so when does that actually happen?"
....it doesn't.
Yet we're still completely hooked on these concepts of what life should be.

I'm thinking maybe it's time to give all that up, because honestly I'd rather not spend my time comparing my life, full of so-called "flaws," to the fantasy worlds created by someone else. The imperfections are what keep things interesting.

(Unless I could join the wizarding world of Harry Potter. I'd be off to Hogwarts in a heartbeat.)

And that's all I have to say about that.

P.S.

This is my best friend.
She's probably the closest to perfect that I have in my life,
and I love her to pieces.
Except not literally.
That'd be bad.
